FOOTBALL
CHEERLEADING
Boone Grove/Winfield Pop Warner is affiliated with the national Pop Warner
organization, Mid-America Pop Warner, and is overseen locally by the Northern
Indiana Pop Warner Little Scholars. Our association plays all home football
games at Boone Grove Middle School (click on link to find our field). Any child
age 5-15 years old who resides in the Winfield or Porter Township School
systems can play for our organization. Children outside these boundaries may
require a waiver from other Pop Warner associations.
MAP TO BOONE GROVE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Pop Warner employs age and weight limits on football players to increase
safety. Players are placed into appropriate divisions based upon their age and
weight according to the following matrix:
Who can cheer for the Wolves?
Any child that wants to cheer for the BGWPW, lives within our boundries and is
between the ages of 5-15 can cheer for the wolves. Weight limits do not apply to
cheerleaders.
Competition
Cheer participants not only cheer at football games. Cheer squads are eligible
for cheer exhibitions, as well as Pop Warner Cheer competitons at the local,
regional and national level. Beginning after the 2009 season, BGWPW will be
offering a year-round cheer program for all competitive divisions (Jr. Pee Wee
and higher). Year-round cheer is designed for those participants who wish to
participate in competitive cheer events even after the Pop Warner season has
ended.

A child's age is calculated as their age as of July 31 for the season.
A player may gain 1 pound per week after the first game.
Is playing football safe?
Kids compete with kids of similar age and size. Pop Warner is the ONLY youth
football program (local, regional and national) that sets and enforces a strict AGE
& WEIGHT MATRIX that reduces the risk and reality of injuries.
Did you know that Pop Warner football is safer than soccer? Pop Warner football
has 12% fewer injuries per capita among 5-15 year olds than organized soccer
in the same age range! (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, NEISS)
ACADEMICS
How much time is involved?
Practices will start on August 1st and the teams/cheer squads will practice 5
days a week until school starts. Once school starts, they will practice 3 days a
week. The season will start approximately the last weekend of August and will
last until the 2nd weekend of October. The playoffs start the following week.
Only the Jr Pee Wee and older teams are playoff eligible. The cheerleaders (Jr
pee wee and older) will compete in a district competition at the end of the year
and the 1st and 2nd place teams from the district qualify for the regional
competition during thanksgiving weekend and the top teams there qualify for
the National meet in Orlando Florida in December.

Pop Warner serves as the only youth football, cheerleading & dance organization
that requires its participants to maintain academic standards in order to participate.
Pop Warner's commitment to academics is what separates the program from other
youth sports around the world.
As the only national youth sports organization that requires scholastic aptitude to
participate, Pop Warner is committed to developing America's young people on the
field and off. Each year Pop Warner continues to expand its efforts in team and
activity participation, as well as visibility and outreach in the community.
Since 1929, the Pop Warner Programs Philosophy has been that athletics and
scholastics go hand in hand. At every level, Pop Warner programs seek to develop
well-rounded young men and women who learn not only the fundamentals of
football, cheerleading, and dance but also the importance of education in an
atmosphere conducive to developing sound character while having a good time.
